A New Everyday Scent

Today has been a long time in the making.  We officially launched the seminal candle that really started the idea that has blossomed into City Candle Company.  I've always been fascinated with smells and their ability to conjure nostalgia.  Pinewood Avenue is the embodiment of that very concept.  When I first came up with the idea of City Candle Company, Pinewood Avenue was the scent I most wanted to create and put out into the world.  Its the scent I've labored over the most, going through many different iterations and formulas before landing on what I believe is the perfect fragrance blend.

Please visit the product page and take a look at what we've created.  Between now and the end of March, we're offering 10% off all variants of Pinewood Avenue.  No code required.  The discount will automatically be applied at checkout.  I'm incredibly proud of this product and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

What I'm reading - The Death of Ivan Ilyich by Leo Tolstoy True story - I was meant to read this novella in high school.  I'm not totally sure what grade but let's say 9th grade.  Regardless, much like most of my assignments in high school, I ignorantly did not complete the assignment.  I wish I had.  This brilliant novella is incredibly quick to read and well worth the time.  Although written almost 150 years ago, it contains many themes and concepts relevant to modern life.  Highly recommend.

What I'm watching - WGC Dell Match Play.  I watch a decent amount of golf and that's precisely why this tournament intrigues me.  Its a match play event, whereas essentially all other PGA Tour events are stroke play events.  For the uninitiated, match play means that 2 players are playing head to head over 18 holes.  Whoever wins the most holes, wins the match.  I would like to see the PGA Tour work in more match play in some fashion.  I would also like to play more match play myself against my golfing buddies.  Ceebz, Terr, Drew, Benjamin, Rob, Daniel, Christian, Dad - if y'all want this smoke, you know where to find me.

What I'm burning AMEN, our April Small Batch.  This candle isn't even on the shelves yet but I can't get enough of it.  It will officially launch next Friday, April 1st.  This candle is a celebration of all things Spring.  Its filled with floral, garden-centric scents like Magnolia, Peony, and Freesia.  It seriously smells like the perfect bouquet of fragrant flowers.  Its incredible.  Be on the lookout next week for the AMEN drop.  You won't want to miss this one.  I promise.

What I'm listening to - The Golfer's Journal Podcast.  I was sent this specific episode by good friend of the company, Rob.  The episode features an interview of my favorite sports writer, Wright Thompson, by one of my favorite golf writers, Tom Coyle.  Its a great listen.  Just listening to Wright Thompson is a treat.  Reading any of his work (notably, The Cost of These Dreams and Pappyland) is even better.

What I'm thinking about - An absolutely manic April we have ahead of us.  In addition to this week's launch of Pinewood Avenue, and next week's launch of AMEN, we're launching 2 Spring seasonals during the 2nd week of March.  The first is an ode to good weather and good time: BRUNCH.  This candle features scents of Citrus, Champagne, and Coconut.  It smells just like a boozy, midday precursor to a great meal eaten on a patio in good company.  A true, one-of-a-kind candle.

The next Spring seasonal we are releasing is called POCKET FULL OF POSIES.  This candle floral, soft, and frankly, lovely.  It contains fragrances of Rose, Lily, and Spring Rain.  Its my wife's 2nd favorite scent we make (LITTLE RIDGE being #1 for her).  I think this is a quintessential spring candle and will be perfectly in place in everyone's home as the zinnias and marigolds come alive outside.  These spring seasonals will run from April to roughly Labor Day.  We'll keep these well stocked so you can enjoy them all Spring and Summer long.

In addition, we now have 2 Spring Markets confirmed for the coming weeks! I previously mentioned that we will be at Lakeview Market at Back Forty on Saturday, April 16th.  As stated - Be there or be square.  We got word a few weeks ago that we'll be a featured vendor at the April 9th Woodlawn Street Market! This is an awesome event in a really cool neighborhood.  If you've never been, please come and meet us at the market.  You won't be disappointed.  This event will run from 10am to 4pm.  Please come by, say hello, and take in a beautiful Spring event in a historic neighborhood.

As always, if you have any questions, feel free to reach out to us at burncitycandles@gmail.com, or via any of our social media channels.  Also, for any local Birmingham folks, we offer local pickup in Crestwood so we can meet all of your candle needs right up to and through the holidays.  Hit us up!
